How to play Blackjack

Blackjack is an extremely popular game within a casino, the rules of the game are relatively easy to understand the game is of a fast pace that makes it a lot of fun to play.  It is a card game that is played with the intent of trying to accumulate cards that total a maximum of 21 without exceeded this number.  The card values are represented by an Ace being equal to 1 or 11 and the Jack, Queen and King being worth 10 each, all remaining cards are worth their individual numbers. The game is usually played in a casino where the player will be playing against the dealer.  To win the game, the player must try to beat the dealer without going exceeding 21 (busting).

To start playing the game, it is often easier for a player to start at a “shoe” table; the cards at this type of table are dealt face up for all players to see.  The table will usually seat 6 to 8 people comfortably and before play begins each player must place a bet on the outcome of the game.  The bets are placed into a designated area of the table usually in the form of money or chips.  To start the game the players are usually dealt two cards face up.  The dealer will deal 2 cards, 1 face up and 1 face down.  Players will then have to decide whether to have another card dealt to them or to stick with their existing cards.  If they player wants to take another card, they can indicate this to the dealer with a hand gesture of by saying “hit me”.  If the player wants to stick or stand, they can place their bets over their cards of turn the card in a horizontal direction to indicate they don’t want anymore cards.
 
If players are still in without busting, they must wait for the dealer to play their cards before continuing.  When play continues, the dealer will turn over the face down cards; they will then decide whether to carry on, as a general rule, if the dealers total is 16 or lower then they must deal another card to their hand.  If their total is 17 or over they can stick or stand with their existing cards. 

If the players hand totals 21 with the first two cards dealt this is called a “Blackjack” and this is won by having a face card which is worth 10 points and an Ace worth 11 points totalling 21.  The player will then automatically win one and a half times their bet unless the dealer also has a blackjack in which case it becomes a tie or a push and only the bet amount is returned to the player.

When playing blackjack, if the players’ individual cards have a higher total than the dealer, they will win an amount equal to their bet.  If players have a lower total than the dealer, they will then lose their bet and play will resume again.  If the dealers game means that they bust, all players will win.
