Blackjack Rules
 |
The objective in Blackjack is to try and beat the dealer by getting a your hand of cards to add up to a value of 21 or under. The face of the cards determine the value of itself, 2 - 10 have their own value, the picture cards have the value of ten and the ace has a value of either 1 or 11. If your hand is closer to 21 than the dealers then you will win the same amount as your bet (example - your bet = £5, your winnings = £5). However if you have a blackjack hand (an ace and a card with the value of 10), then you win 3:2 (example - your bet £5, your winnings £7.50).
The dealer starts by dealing two cards to each player and himself one at a time from left to right. When you have your two cards you will want to try and get the value of your hand up to 21 but without going over (bust). The rules that a dealer have to play by are simple; the dealer cards value is equal to 16 or less has to hit (take another card), if the dealer has 17 or more then he has to stand. If the total value of your cards is over 21 then your hand has bust and you lose, if the you and the dealer gets the same card value then neither party wins then you will get your bet back (push). And Blackjack beats a hand value of 21.
If you have a pair that you want to split and your cards are dealt face down, turn them over and place them a few inches apart. The original bet will go with one of the cards and you will have to place an equal amount of chips in the betting box near the other card. You are now playing two hands, each as though they were regular hands with the exception being that if you have just split two aces. In that case, you only get one card which will hopefully be a 10. If it is a 10, that hand's total is now 21 but the hand is not considered a Blackjack hand.
Insurance only comes into play when a dealer's face up card is an Ace. If a player wants insurance, half the original amount bet is placed in the semicircle labelled "insurance" which is on the table in front of you.
