This website will give you a brief insight in to the casino game "Blackjack", whether you play it online or in a casino, this site would be helpful to you.

The Blackjack card game originated from the casinos in France around 1700's where they called it "vingt-et-un" ("twenty-and-one") and it has been played in Europe and the U.S. since the 1800's. Blackjack is named as such because if a player got an Ace of spades and a Jack of spades as the first two cards, the player was additionally rewarded. Therefore spade being the colour black and the jack being an important card.

In casino gambling Blackjack is one of the primary games of chance which are offered to gamblers. Some countries that offer casino gambling include England, France, Monaco, the Caribbean islands and of course the U.S.

The effort to apply mathematics to Blackjack began in 1953 and was concluded in 1956 with a published paper. The title of the paper was "The Optimum Strategy in Blackjack", the theory behind the paper was to reduce the house advantage, but because it was a mathematical paper it was not really the best strategy because the system needed to be refined.

This was done in 1962 by Professor Edward O. Thorp, the book "Beat the Dealer" was published and was on the New York Times best sellers list for a week in 1963. The casinos also got scared of the book because it was so popular and it explained card counting.

The casinos tried to change the rules of the game but it did not last long because of the punters protesting. The change in rules resulted in a loss of income for the casinos, so they quickly reverted back to the original rules. In Thorp's book, the card counting method was not easy to master and the people did not understand it, the casinos made a lot of money due to the popularity the book gave to the game and all the media attention.
